Unicorn built the Contender range for the players coming up behind the tour regulars — real 90% tungsten and current point technology, without the flagship price. Darren Beveridge's set is the minimalist one: a plain silver barrel broken only by three 'Ice Cold' blue rings that give the dart its name.

V grooves front and back

The machining is where the money has gone. Elongated V grooves and micro V cuts run the length of the barrel, with extra milling at the rear — Unicorn rate the front section 3 out of 5 for grip and the rear 4 out of 5, so the bite increases as you move your fingers back. Weight sits forward, with the centre of gravity at 23.9mm.

Volute points and Gripper 4 shafts

The patented Volute steel tip uses a CNC helix that increases the surface area holding in the sisal, cutting bounce-outs without extra damage to the board. Medium 41mm Gripper 4 shafts and Ultrafly Plus flights complete the set, and the barrel is weight certified to ±0.1g with the engraved Unicorn hallmark.
