Mayo G8: Mayuko Morita's slot machine barrel, now in steel tip

Eight generations in, the Mayo series has always leaned bright and characterful, and the G8 pushes that further than any before it. Built with Mayuko Morita — darts idol and working professional poker player — the concept here is a slot machine: spinning reels, flashing lights, the whole cheerful racket of it. It suits her. And for the first time in the series there is a steel tip version, which is the news a lot of UK players have been waiting on; every previous Mayo has been soft tip only, so this is the first chance to throw the design on a bristle board without conversion points.

Classic torpedo profile built for speed off the hand

The G8 uses a classic torpedo shape, front-weighted and direct, with the kind of quick acceleration that suits players who like to get the dart gone rather than dwell on it. Both weights run a 46mm barrel; the 23g sits at 7.1mm maximum diameter and the 25g at 7.4mm, so the extra weight arrives as girth rather than length and the dart keeps the same compact feel across the pair. It's a forgiving, fast-throwing shape — easy to pick up and hard to overthink.

Slot machine milling at the front, dotted shark cuts at the rear

The front of the barrel is where the concept lives. Three rows of rotating square motifs mimic reels mid-spin, and milled inside them are cat paws, lightning bolts and smiling icons — playful to look at, but precise enough that the fingers register each block distinctly. It's genuinely useful tactile mapping: you can feel exactly where you are on the barrel without checking. The rear keeps the shark cuts the Mayo line is known for, strong on anti-slip, with dot detailing milled into them to carry the theme through. A PVD Purple coating finishes the barrel, rich purple on the surface with gold catching inside the grooves — flashy in the best sense, and a long way from the usual black-and-silver Japanese signature dart.

Swiss Point fitting, K-Flex flights and the ten-piece set

The G8 takes Swiss Point fitting, so the 30mm Swiss Points screw flush into the barrel nose and come out again in seconds with the included Swiss Point tool — no glue, no compromise on balance, and easy to try a different point length down the line. Flights and shafts are supplied as a single moulded K-Flex No.2 in white with the Target Japan roundel, 26mm intermediate, on a universal 2BA thread; our K-Flex guide explains why the one-piece system reduces bounce-outs. If you want Mayuko's own slot machine flight artwork, the matching Mayo K-Flex No.2 and Mayo K-Flex No.6 are stocked separately. Note this is a ten-piece set — no tin or point guard included.
