Harry Kicks founded the business in 1945 with his army demob money, trading as H.A. Kicks and making hand-painted elm dartboards. He later renamed it after his wife, Winifred Maud — Win-Mau, which is why the trade still pronounces it "win more". Winmau went on to sponsor the World Masters, the oldest darts tournament still running.

The Nodor connection — and why it matters to your points

In 2002 Winmau was bought by Nodor, its old rival, and both brands continued under the same roof in Bridgend, south Wales. Red Dragon sits in that same group.
